Why Every Massage Should Be Different
Our bodies change every day.
Whether we realise it or not, they absorb, adapt, brace, and respond to everything life asks of us. An extra session at the gym. A stressful week at work. Caring for a loved one. Spending the afternoon in the garden. Even the emotional load we carry can leave its mark.
All of these experiences shape how our bodies feel - physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Massage is a wonderful way to help release the tension that can build from everyday life. But because life is always changing, I believe your massage should change too.
It Starts with Listening
Every treatment begins with a conversation.
This is your opportunity to tell me what has brought you in, how you're feeling, and what you hope to achieve from your session. We explore what may be contributing to your discomfort, what helps, what aggravates it, and how we can work together to help you feel more like yourself again.
If it's your first massage, I'll explain what to expect and answer any questions you may have. If you've had a massage before, I'd love to hear about those experiences too - what worked well and what didn't.
We also take the time to discuss your medical history, current health conditions, and any medications you're taking. Every part of your treatment is considered carefully so your massage is not only effective but appropriate for your individual needs. Because no two people are the same.
Your Body Guides the Treatment
Once your treatment begins, we start with something simple - your breath.
Many people think this is just a gentle way to begin, but it's also the first opportunity for me to listen to your body. As I work, I'm feeling how your muscles respond, how your soft tissue moves, where restrictions are present, and how your fascia is behaving.
It's a little like gathering clues.
Your body tells me where tension is being held, which areas need more time, which techniques are likely to be most beneficial, and how your tissues respond throughout the session.
That's why I don't follow a routine massage sequence.
How could I? Your body is unique, and your treatment should be too.
Let's Talk About Pressure
One of the biggest misconceptions about massage is that firmer pressure always delivers better results.
In reality, the right pressure is the one that works for your body.
If you're holding your breath, tensing your muscles, or counting down the seconds until a painful technique ends, your body isn't relaxing - it's protecting itself.
Over the years, many clients have shared experiences of massages that were simply too firm. Some asked for the pressure to be reduced but felt unheard, leaving the session sore, bruised, or discouraged from booking another massage.
That shouldn't happen.
During your treatment, your comfort matters.
I encourage open communication so we can find the pressure that's right for you. Sometimes that's deep. Sometimes it's surprisingly gentle. The goal isn't to use the most pressure possible; it's to use the right pressure to help your body release tension safely and effectively.
Every Massage Tells a Different Story
No two massages I give are ever the same because no two people arrive with the same story.
Your treatment evolves throughout the session, responding to what your body needs in that moment, not to a predetermined routine.
It always reminds me of a conversation between an ogre and a talking donkey about layers… Our bodies have layers too. Layers of movement, stress, tension, emotions, habits, and life experiences. Sometimes they reveal themselves immediately, and sometimes they take a little patience to uncover.
My role is to work with those layers, helping your body let go of what it's been carrying so you leave feeling lighter, calmer, restored, and able to breathe a little easier.
Because when you feel truly listened to, your body has the opportunity to respond in ways that routine treatments simply can't. That's the difference a personalised massage can make.
